Summer Field Conference Draws a Large Crowd
The PGWA Summer Field Conference, held at Funks Drilling in Newville on June 28, had the largest attendance of any PGWA summer meeting. The more than 250 attendees included well drillers, Department of Environmental Protection employees, Department of Conservation and Natural Resources employees, Conservation District personnel, geologists, engineers, and municipal officials. Christine Martin, DEP Deputy Secretary for Water Management was the keynote speaker, and spoke on the importance of the water resources legislation currently before the legislature in Harrisburg. The focus of the field conference was to show how residential well construction standards as envisioned in HB 1591 should be implemented. The demonstrations showed each and every step in the proper drilling, casing, grouting, developing, and testing of a residential water well. Best management practices for sediment control were used and are described in the article on the sediment filter bag at this link. Geothermal loop installation, video logging, and soil jetting and vacuum excavation were also demonstrated. Scroll down to go to the list of hosts, demonstrators, exhibitors, and sponsors. Thank you to all who made this event possible.
