More than 40,000 visitors attend
Ag Progress Days each year in
Rock Springs
,
Centre
County
. Many of the attendees are
Pennsylvania
farmers, and some bring every farm family member including small children.
The very latest equipment is on display and is demonstrated, and
information is available on every aspect of farming and farm life.
Because the majority of
Pennsylvania
farms get their water from one or more wells, the
PGWA
is going to reach out to this audience with an awareness and education program.
We will again have a display table in the Conservation
Tent where we will operate our ground-water flow models and our clear plastic well models.
The models will demonstrate how aquifer pollution can occur, and will
show how proper grouting of the well casing protects the aquifer water quality.
Ag Progress Days are August 19,
20, and 21. The hours will be:
Tuesday the 19th
9:00 am to 5:00 pm , Wednesday the 20th
9:00 am to 8:00 pm , and Thursday the 21st
9:00 am to 4:00 pm
. There will be a total of 26
exhibit hours during which we will need a minimum of two people in our booth to
answer questions, operate the ground-water flow model, and promote ground-water
awareness.
The Public Awareness Committee is
asking for volunteers to staff the booth, and we will need a minimum of 8 people
who are trained to operate the ground-water flow model.
Please volunteer to help us at Ag Progress Days by contacting Tom Keys, Chairman of the Public Awareness Committee of the
PGWA
, at tpkeyes@gmail.com . You can call
Tom at 610-644-2886.
I have attended Ag Progress Days
for the past 12 years, and have found them to be informative, educational,
entertaining, and fun. I predict
that you will visit many of the 300 other exhibits and demonstrations when you
are not helping out in the
PGWA
booth. Because more than 40,000
people attend Ag Progress Days each year, hotel and motel rooms are sold out far
in advance. Be sure to make your
room reservations very early, perhaps tomorrow!
Detailed information on all of the Ag
Progress Days events and exhibits is available at http://apd.cas.psu.edu/
