Setting up the new Schramm T555 drill rig at the Funks Drilling site in Newville, PA.

Welding two lengths of steel casing together during the construction of the demonstration well.

The Allyn Containment Systems diverter in action during the drilling of the demonstration well.

The sediment filter bag contained all of the cuttings and let the almost sediment free water seep through the geotextile fabric.  To see how the sediment filter bag worked during the drilling of this demonstration well, click here.

The EZ-Seal bentonite grout mixed very easily and quickly.

Using a tremie pipe to place the EZ-Seal bentonite grout into the annular space between the casing the the 10-inch bore hole.  The grout was pumped through the tremie pipe so it filled the annular space from the bottom up to the surface.  The tremie pipe was withdrawn slowly to keep pace with the top of the bentonite grout in the annular space.

A video camera was inserted into the completed water well, and a VHS format video log of the well was recorded.

An electric submersible pump was installed and a pumping test was performed on the well.  Here drawdown is being measured with a water level probe,.  The gage in the lower left is showing the discharge rate of the pump.

After the pumping test was completed, the well was decommissioned.  Here the casing is being removed.

The drill rig has been driven off of the hole, and here a tremie pipe is being used to place EZ-Seal bentonite grout from the bottom of the hole up th the ground surface.  The grout mixer and grout pump are in the foreground.  This completed the proper decommissioning of the demonstration well.

The Funk geothermal pipe loop installation reel is being demonstrated in this photo.  A hand brake is used to slowly lower the pipe loop into the borehole.

Eichelberger's crew is demonstrating their vacuum soil excavation unit.  This rig is used when electric, gas, or other hazardous utilities may be present and cannot be accurately located.  Air and/or water jetting is used to loosen the soil and it is vacuumed out of the hole into the tank on the trailer.  Once the vacuum soil excavation unit has excavated below the depth of any utilities, a monitoring well can be safely constructed through the lead hole using a conventional air rotary or auger type drill rig.
