The Plastic Well Construction Workshop by Todd Giddings, Ph.D., P.G.
Here is the opportunity to build your own operating clear plastic well and pump system, complete with submersible pump, pitless adapter, and pressure tank. You can install your own brand of pump and tank on this model well to show potential customers how a water system works. The model well will also allow you to demonstrate how the pitless adapter protects the water quality, and how the submersible pump delivers water to a home. You could even install a variable speed submersible pump and use the model to show the benefits of a constant pressure system. Well drillers, pump installers, and suppliers will be able to use this portable model well and pump system to educate customers and promote their quality products. The difficult part of constructing the clear plastic model well is finding the clear PVC 6-inch well casing and assembling the flange and base. You will complete this assembly work at the Plastic Well Construction Workshop that will be held on Saturday morning in the Penn Stater. The PGWA has purchased the clear PVC well casing, flanges, bolts, and base, and will provide the necessary tools at the Workshop. You will take the clear plastic well home and install your own brand of submersible pump, pitless adapter, controls, and pressure tank to create a complete operating clear plastic well and pump system to use in your office, shop, or take to the customer. We used Dick Raab’s model well shown in the photo to educate farmers this year at Ag Progress Days and to educate teachers at the American Ground Water Trust’s Pennsylvania Ground Water Institute for Teachers. The PGWA hopes that you will also use your model well to educate your local civic club members or a class of children in your local school. We are providing this workshop to help you build a model that will help your business and your community. The cost of this workshop is $150.00 to cover the cost of the clear PVC casing, the mounting flange, bolts, and base. Pre-registration is required for this workshop, and seating is limited to 15 persons, so sign up on the conference registration form.
